Our flagship program

Board & Train

Your dog lives and trains with us full-time, in our climate-controlled facility and out in the real world. Then we teach you how to keep it going at home.

The short answerRiedel K9’s board & train is a custom, live-in training program in Middletown, DE. Your dog stays at our facility and trains daily with the Riedel K9 team on obedience, behavior modification and real-world public outings, and you come in weekly for a private training session with your dog. We offer basic and full custom board & train programs, and duration depends on the package. Call (302) 378-7943 for current tuition.

How it works

Training that comes home with you.

Most training fails at home because the dog learned it but the family didn’t. Our board & train fixes both: intensive daily training for your dog, then focused coaching for you.

Every program is custom. A high-energy Lab who won’t stop pulling gets a very different plan from a resource-guarding Great Pyrenees or a dog-reactive shepherd. We assess temperament, drive and history, then train the dog in front of us.

Your dog trains inside our large climate-controlled facility, in our fenced outdoor areas, and out in public: Lowe’s, the mall, parks, hiking trails, even boats and paddleboards. If it’s part of your life, it’s part of the training.

The process

Four steps to a different dog.

  1. 01

    Evaluation

We meet you and your dog, see the behavior first-hand, and talk through your goals. Then we recommend a basic or full custom program; duration depends on the package.

  2. 02

    Immersion

Your dog lives at our facility and trains every day with the Riedel K9 team: obedience, structure, behavior work and plenty of exercise. You come in weekly for a private training session with your dog.

  3. 03

    Real-world proofing

We take training on the road to stores, parks, trails and restaurants, so commands hold up where it actually matters.

  4. 04

    Go-home lessons

You learn exactly what your dog learned. We coach you hands-on, in your weekly sessions and at pickup, so the results last long after your dog comes home.

What your dog learns

Built for real life.

  • Off-leash heel & recall
  • Rock-solid sit, down, stay & place
  • Door manners & no bolting
  • Loose-leash walking (no pulling)
  • No jumping on people
  • Calm behavior in public
  • Impulse control & boundaries
  • Confidence building
  • Reactivity & aggression work
  • Resource-guarding work

Exact skills depend on your dog and your goals. We’ll map them out together at the evaluation.

From our clients

Real dogs. Real owners.

“I took my female German Shepherd here for the board and train program, and she came back as a completely different dog. She used to not let anyone in certain rooms in the house, and now has no problems — as well as made it possible for her to go on walks surrounded by other dogs, without any reactivity. I would 100% send any of my future dogs back without hesitation.”

“Their care and love for dogs is apparent from the very beginning. I was apprehensive about leaving my pup with someone else, but after seeing their interaction at our first training session I was immediately put at ease. As the weeks progressed and I could see the changes in my dog and the bond he had formed with Nelson, I was blown away. They worked no less than a miracle.”

“After losing our daughter, Clary’s human, it was incredibly hard to let her go into someone else’s care, but Riedel K9 truly embraced her like family. We’re beyond grateful for the trust we could place in them, and seeing her walk with us on leash now is just a beautiful gift.”

What is a board and train program?

In a board & train, your dog lives at our facility and trains daily with the Riedel K9 team, both at the facility and out in public places like stores, parks and trails. You come in weekly for a private training session with your dog, so you know how to keep the results going at home.

How long does board and train take?

We offer basic and full custom board & train programs. Duration depends on the package.

Do you train reactive or aggressive dogs?

Yes. Leash reactivity, dog aggression, resource guarding and fear-based behavior are a big part of what we do, through board & train, behavior modification and private lessons. For safety, dog-aggressive or people-aggressive dogs can’t attend group classes, but we’re happy to work with them privately.
